"Equipping Shetlanders with the skills to work in the renewables industry"
Developing the skills needed to work with renewable energy technologies is fundamental in ensuring that everyone has the chance to join in the renewables revolution set to take place here in Shetland. Moreover, by adding a thriving renewables energy sector to our local economy, we can help to reverse the trend that sees many of our natives choosing to leave the islands to seek employment opportunities elsewhere.
The NAFC Marine Centre and other partner organisations in the UHI are keen to work with commercial and industrial partners to ensure that Shetland has the skills required to make the most of our renewable resources – resources that will never run out.
Our Skills group are currently preparing to survey companies in Shetland to find out exactly what skills they require their workforce to have. This will inform future work undertaken in training course development, and such like.
