Promoting R&D Excellence in Shetland
Date: 5 September 2012
SREF have arranged for Dr. Simon Puttock from the Energy Technology Partnership (ETP), to visit Shetland on the 5th of September, along with staff from the Energy Research Group of the University of the Highlands and Islands, who are ETP members. Please contact us, if you would like to attend:
The ETP is a collective including most of the Scottish Universities which are active in Energy research and development. Here is a link to their website. It’s worth mentioning that not only are the ETP active in Renewable Energy nd also Oil & Gas R&D too.
The organisation work closely with the Scottish Government on supporting and defining national Energy R&D strategy, and as such, it’s a bit of a coup to get Simon to head up to Shetland, and find out a bit more about the landscape here, and how the ETP may be able to support skills development, and R&D development around the Isles – he seems very enthusiastic about the trip, and since UHI are members of the ETP, he can grant funding for projects to be hosted by UHI institutions.
Apart from pure R&D activities, the ETP also support learning and skills development by offering discounted CPD modules, etc. for those already active in industry, and this may be attractive to local businesses.
The exact agenda is a work in progress, but we hoped to have an ‘industry panel’ type event on the afternoon of the 5th
